Many ways to help!

Volunteer - A Volunteer participates in our special events as needed, with such as our annual Deep Pit BBQ and the Lima Bean Cook-off & Faire.  There is also some training involved, but you will not be required to lead tours when you volunteer.  When helping at a special event, you will be placed where you are needed, serving food, decorating, setup and teardown, etc.

Docent - A Docent goes through some basic training and is educated on the history of the San Dieguito area, as well as the artifacts and buildings on display at the museum.  A Docent is present at the museum during our open hours, currently Thursday-Sunday, 12:00 Noon to 4:00PM, to give tours of the museum and the grounds to visitors.  We also have opportunities at other times for Docents during special events.

There are also many opportunities year-round assisting with children’s crafts, archiving of artifacts, and database maintenance. We try to fit you where you will be happiest.

School Tour Instructor - The Museum hosts approximately 1,000 students per year, mostly 1st or 3rd graders, who come on school field trips.  The School Tour Instructor instructs the students in one of the following activities:

Barter Game – Teach how to barter using a deck of cards with pictures of various items such as cows, eggs, and hammers, etc., which the kids barter for similarly valued items.

Making Butter – Children shake jars of cream until the butter is formed.

Sand Painting – Tell a story through symbols that are “painted” onto paper using colored sand and glue.

Museum Tour – Students are taken on a tour of the Museum.

Please note:  These are all unpaid volunteer positions.  If you are interested, please contact
